This coffee comes from Mchana Estate, one of the largest estates operated by Kofinaf Company Ltd, located in the fertile highlands of Kiambu County, just north of Nairobi. Sitting at altitudes ranging from 1,800m to 2,550m, the estate benefits from rich volcanic soils, cool temperatures, and ideal growing conditions that contribute to the vibrant acidity and clarity Kenyan coffees are famous for.

The estate cultivates a combination of renowned Kenyan varietals including SL28, Ruiru 11, K7, and Batian, each contributing structure, sweetness, and complexity to the final cup profile.

Coffee at Mchana is processed using the traditional washed method, helping to preserve the clean, bright character of the beans while highlighting delicate florals and layered fruit notes. The result is a cup that is lively and refined, with notes of candied lemon, elderflower, and blackcurrant.

Beyond coffee quality, Mchana Estate places a strong emphasis on social responsibility and sustainability. The estate supports hundreds of workers throughout the year, provides educational facilities and childcare for families, and operates under UTZ and Rainforest Alliance certification standards. Water recycling systems and environmentally conscious processing methods are also in place to reduce environmental impact and protect local ecosystems.

This is a coffee that reflects not only Kenya’s world-class growing conditions, but also the care, structure, and community behind its production.
