Chemex
The Chemex Coffeemaker was invented in 1941 by Dr. Peter Schlumbohm and is an elegant, one-piece, hourglass shaped vessel made of high quality, heat resistant glass that has truly stood the test of time. The Chemex® coffeemaker makes coffee that is clear, pure, flavourful and without bitterness or sediment.
The coffee only comes in contact with the scientifically designed filter and non-porous glass. For those who like to brew coffee Chemex remains “the” coffeemaker to purchase.
What you need
8-cup Chemex
Chemex Filter
Grinder
Scale
Timer
Stir stick
Mug
32g (6 tablespoons) of Ariosa Coffee
Pre heat and prep
Pour hot water generously around the paper filter, eliminating any paper taste and pre-heating the Chemex, then throw the water out - you only want brewed coffee in your final drink.
Water and weight
Bring enough water to just below a boil (~200° F / ~93° C ) in order to brew the coffee and pre-heat the Chemex and weight out 32 grams of coffee and grind it medium.
Saturate
Pour just enough water to saturate the grounds evenly and start your timer! Stir with a spoon to get rid of any dry clumps.
Add more water
After 30-45 seconds, pour the remaining water continuously and evenly onto the grounds and in a circular fashion, moving inward and outward within the circle to push the grounds toward the walls. The coffee level should rise just above the grounds.
Watch and wait
By 4 mins, you should be able to see consistent walls of grounds with an even bed toward the bottom of the filter. Lift and remove the filter out completely.
The best part
Swirl, pour, enjoy.
