The Story Behind Fazenda Santuario Sul

Located in the renowned coffee-growing region of Carmo de Minas, Fazenda Santuario Sul is one of Brazil's most innovative specialty coffee farms. Since 2015, producer Luiz Paulo Dias Pereira Filho has transformed the 120-hectare estate into a living laboratory dedicated to exploring exotic coffee varieties and experimental processing methods.

Rather than focusing solely on traditional Brazilian cultivars, Luiz Paulo has planted more than 30 rare coffee varieties from around the world, carefully evaluating how each performs within the unique microclimate of the Mantiqueira de Minas mountains.

This microlot features the famous SL28 variety, originally developed in Kenya and celebrated worldwide for its vibrant acidity, fruit complexity, and floral character. While SL28 is rarely grown in Brazil, the cool temperatures and high elevations of Carmo de Minas have allowed it to flourish, producing a cup that combines Kenyan-style brightness with Brazilian sweetness.

Adding to its uniqueness, this coffee has been processed using the washed method, a relatively uncommon approach in Brazil. The result is a remarkably clean and transparent cup, allowing the SL28's distinctive characteristics to shine through.
