Huehuetenango is a municipality in the western highlands of Guatemala, running up to the border with Mexico and encompassing a lot of microclimates across its undulating hills and valleys. Spanish is spoken here, but it is not unusual to hear Mam, highlighting the Mayan ancestry of the area. This is one of the most remote and hilly coffee growing regions of Guatemala, and the small producers of this region generally master the farming techniques very well.

It is common to find them taking care of the complete processing of the coffee themselves (pulping, fermentation and drying). Fortunately, the region has an almost infinite number of rivers and streams, so a mill can be located almost anywhere.

Coffees for this lot come from small producers located in Santa Barbara, San Pedro Néctar, San Juan Atitán, Todos Los Santos Cuchumatanes and La Libertad.

Dried coffee is produced at the farm level before being delivered to Lux Cafe’s dry mill in Villa Nueva, where it undergoes a final grading and sorting before being bagged for export.
