Burundi Muyinga Coffee is a specialty coffee from the Muyinga province in northern Burundi, near the Rwandan and Tanzanian borders close to the Ruvubu National Park and traversed by the River Nile adding to its natural allure. 

Renowned for its excellent climate, Muyinga Province provides an optimal environment for cultivating the Red Bourbon variety of coffee, known for its delightful notes of sweetness, caramel, and chocolate.

Burundi is known for producing high-quality coffee with a distinctive bright acidity and complex flavour notes .

Key Characteristics of Burundi Muyinga Coffee:

1. Flavour Profile

  • Bright, citrusy acidity (orange, tangerine, lemon)
  • Sweet, honey-like body with caramel or brown sugar notes 
  • Fruity undertones (red berries, stone fruits, or apple)
  • Floral hints (jasmine, black tea, bergamot)

2. Processing Methods

  • Washed (Fully Washed) – The most common method in Burundi, producing a clean, crisp, and vibrant cup.
  • Natural (Dry Processed) – Less common, but results in a richer, fruitier profile. 

3. Growing Conditions

  • Altitude: 1,500–2,000 meters above sea level (MASL)
  • Climate: Cool and misty, ideal for slow cherry maturation 
  • Soil: Volcanic , nutrient-rich soil that enhances complexity

4. Cup Quality &  Acidity

  • Bright and tea-like acidity, sometimes with a winey finish.
  • Smooth body with a lingering aftertaste.
