The French Press is all about simplicity. Coffee, water & time. Its classic and well-engineered design hasn’t changed much since its invention in 1929, and it’s perfect for making multiple cups of heavy-bodied coffee in 4 minutes.

The metal filter allows more oils and small coffee particles to make it into your cup, resulting in a heavy bodied, rich cup of coffee.

Grind Coffee

It is important that the coffee be ground with a good quality burr (rather than blade) grinder. By grinding the coffee coarse, you’re allowing for a slower and more even extraction, which results in a fuller bodied and more nuanced cup. Blade grinders chop the coffee rather than grinding it, resulting in uneven and unpredictable particle size & increased bitterness.

Add coffee to pot

Ensure pot is clean and dry. You’ll need 1 tablespoon of coffee for every 4oz of water. Feel free to adjust based on personal tastes.

Add water

Bring water to the boil & then let it cool for 45 seconds. Pour it aggressively into the pot so that water saturates the grounds evenly. Move the stream around to facilitate this. Do not fill up pot entirely.

Stir

After 1 minute, stir the grounds in the pot. This guarantees even & optimal extraction of all the coffee.

Press the pot

Press the pot at exactly 4 minutes. You should push the press (slowly) into the pot to force all grounds to the bottom. You may need to repeat this step.
